Insurance Fraud Hotline
Insurance fraud costs New Zealanders in excess of $150 million each year that has to be paid for by the honest policyholders, through increased premiums. Too many people see insurance fraud as a "victimless" crime, which doesn't impact any individuals, only those wealthy insurance companies. In this way many people who are otherwise honest law abiding citizens justify theft by insurance fraud.
Prevent Insurance Fraud If you have knowledge about an insurance fraud you can call the Insurance council Fraud Hotline and report the circumstances, confidentially, to trained operators.
Confidentiality is guaranteed. When you report details of fraud on the hotline, this information is passed to insurance investigators. You can choose whether or not to leave your contact information with the hotline operator so that the investigator can follow up to clarify the details. These contact details are never disclosed to the party you are reporting. If you don't wish to give your contact details, that's fine. Just give the details of the fraud and the investigators will follow up.
The Insurance Council's Fraud hotline number is:
0800 FRAUDLINE (372 835)
